Ms Charmaine Koo

Charmaine is Co-Head of Deacons Intellectual Property Department and Head of the IP Litigation and Enforcement, Commercial IP and Entertainment and Media Practice.

She is admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong, Canada, England and Wales. Charmaine has a B.Sc from the University of Toronto, an LL.B from Queen's University, an LL.M from Cambridge University and a Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice from the University of Bristol.

Charmaine’s practice covers commercial transactions and litigation involving Music and Entertainment Law, intellectual property issues, Internet and e-commerce issues and enforcing intellectual property rights.

She represents many of the US and European major studios, as well as leading Asian studios throughout the region, prominent independent producers, distributors, sales agents, financiers and talent on transactional and contentious issues including film financing, chain of title clearance, distribution, exploitation, acquisition, production, co-production in Hong Kong, China and other countries, enforcement or disputes regarding rights.

Charmaine recent recognitions include identified as a leading Sports & Entertainment Lawyer in the Who's Who Legal (2014) and a leading lawyer in Media & Entertainment, Trademark and Copyright by Asia IP Experts (2014).

Charmaine has also been awarded “Best in IP Litigation” for Asia at the Euromoney Legal Media Group Asia Women in Business Law Awards (2013) and listed as one of Hong Kong’s leading lawyers in Intellectual Property by Chambers Asia (2009 to 2013 editions).
